New this year to our compensation survey collection! The Council has enhanced our Executive Compensation Survey to include both national and local data for 46 executive-level positions. Each position includes compensation data with breakouts per position by sales volume, employer size, industry, organization type (public vs private), and 22 geographic areas. In addition to cash compensation, this report summarizes data for a variety of benefits and perquisites for both manufacturing and nonmanufacturing organizations. Published: May 2010

According to AFP, "As output exceeded levels before the economic crisis depressed demand, global steel production surged 29% in May from the level in May 2009, the World Steel Association said on June 21."
66 countries make up the association. Collectively they saw production reach 124 million metric tons in May, up from 96 million in May 2009. Lead by China at 56 million tons of steel, up 20.7% over the last 12 months, other’s output included, Japan at 9.7 tons up by 50%. US steel producers rebounded 73.8% to 7.2 million. Even more dramatic was German steel mills which increased 78.7% to 4.1 million tons.
The World Steel Association noted, "World crude steel production in May 2010 was 9.9% higher in comparison with May 2007, before the impact of the global economic crisis was felt."

Bloomberg news reported yesterday that new minimum wage laws, a looser yuan and worker strikes like those at Honda Motor Co. are raising costs at factories in China's Pearl River Delta, prompting companies to increase automation of assembly lines.
Many manufacturers producing in China are reportedly investing in factory equipment to reduce their reliance on labor. Wages in the region have increased 17 percent in the past six months.
An official with INFACT Global Partners said, "Factories need to think seriously about how they produce more with less," and "need to begin to enhance their productivity so that they are in a position to remain competitive."
UTAH NOT LIVING UP TO GREEN ECONOMIC POTENTIAL
June 22, 2010 – UB DailyA new report by Headwaters Economics shows that Utah is underperforming when it comes to clean energy production and energy efficiency, compared to neighboring states with similar resources. Without stronger leadership, policies, and incentives to grow its green economy, Utah will continue to miss opportunities to create thousands of new jobs, earn the state hundreds of millions in annual revenue, and attract private and public investment. “When considering the state’s plentiful solar and geothermal resources, large population, and technology centers, Utah should be a regional leader in growing its green economy,” said Julia Haggerty Ph.
