Business Consultant Says American Ingenuity Will Lead Country Out Of Downturn

October 8, 2009

In an opinion piece for the Christian Science Monitor, political and business consultant Nathan Fisk of Colorado wrote about "Why The US Will Survive This Recession." He argued that "while there is much to learn from the collapse" that occurred during the "Panic of 1837," the "recovery process through 1844 offers important lessons to America in 2009." Important to note, he said, was that "the dramatic downturn laid the foundation for the second phase of the Industrial Revolution" and ushered in the era of railroad expansion. He said, "American ingenuity has consistently beat back economic calamity," and "the time is ripe for American genius to surge. We must shed the idea that our government can buy us out of a depression or somehow use a new tariff or tax to encourage growth. Rather, we must turn to our ingenuity and the audacious independence unique to our nation -- and change the course of America."
