Senate Panel Bypasses Hearing, Approves OSHA Nominee

November 20, 2009

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on November 18 approved the nomination of David Michaels to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The NAM sent a letter to the HELP Committee last month urging a formal hearing in light of Michaels' criticism of efforts to ensure that workplace regulations are based on the best available science and data. Michaels' nomination now proceeds to the full Senate.
