The Senate has scheduled its first vote on health care legislation for Saturday night. To prevail, Democrats will need to muster 60 votes to avoid a Republican filibuster. Majority Leader Harry Reid announced the schedule just one day after unveiling a nearly $1 trillion bill to expand health coverage, that is said to cover 94% of eligible Americans.
It is now down to two bills, the one the House passed two weeks ago and the one Senator Reid has finalized. People close to the action in Washington say, Reid hasn't locked up the 60 votes he needs to get it through.
Neither bill is acceptable to manufacturers. In fact both would significantly increase the cost of healthcare for manufacturers.
