UMA REQUESTS EXTENSION OF TIME FOR COMMENT ON PM10
December 28, 2009

In a letter to Region 8 EPA office in Denver December 8 UMA requested an extension of time for 120 days to formulate comments on EPA’s proposed rule published in the Federal Register December 1, 2009 relating to Utah’s PM10 submittals. In response from Region 8, we received word in an email from Callie Videtich, Director of Air Programs that “We intend to publish a notice in the Federal Register by the end of this year to extend the comment period until March 1, 2010.” This extension of the comment period will provide the UMA Air Quality Committee the needed time to prepare comprehensive comments on a very negative proposal regarding PM10 in Utah. This proposal to disallow parts of Utah’s State Implementation Plan could have very damaging impacts on industries in Utah and seriously delay changes in air permits going forward.
