Senate Support For Healthcare Bill Beginning To Crumble

December 1, 2009

A very patrician Senate is beginning to divide not only along party lines but also within the Democrat Party on support for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bill that is supported by the President. After passing by the thinnest of margins last week support is beginning to soften.

Washington observers suggest the sharp divisions are threatening Reid’s ability to deliver the 60 votes required to pass the bill in the United States Senate. Debate begin Monday and as expected has become very rancorous.

Reid has promised to keep the Senate working weekends for the next few weeks to meet his personal goal of brining it to a vote before Christmas and delivering it to President Obama before the end of January.
