BUILDING YOUR SALES ARSENAL: WHAT'S IN YOUR TOOL KIT?
April 13, 2010 – Tim Huffaker - Business Performance GroupHave you ever stopped to think about the many tools you use as a sales person? Do you have an arsenal of sales tools which are ready for use at a moment's notice? What should you have in your sales arsenal? Items could range from product brochures, attention getters, and samples, to breath mints, dental floss and business cards. The following article talks about the importance of having an arsenal of sales tools, what should be in your kit, and how to use your arsenal.
Do You Have A Sales Tool Kit?Most sales people "wing-it"; they sell bare-handed instead of using the specific tools of sales. In construction, would you drive a screw without a screwdriver, or hammer a nail without a hammer? Would you use a hand saw when you could use a power saw? Let me explain what should be in your sales kit.The purpose of a sales person is to find opportunities, discover pain, present the best solution to remove the pain and finally, to complete the sale. The sales tool kit is used to convincingly and accurately present the solution. Sales tools are used not only in the presentation phase of the sales process, but most importantly during the follow-up stage. Follow-up is the most important part of the process, and the time that sales tools can be used most effectively. These tools are used to help convince the prospect to make the correct decision. HEALTH CARE MANDATE AS AN ISSUE
April 13, 2010 – FLAG Communications Weekly (NAM)Some commentators like Michael Barrone believe the most important question in the confirmation process that a Supreme Court nominee will face is: “Do you believe there is any basis in the U.S. Constitution for the federal government to require individuals to purchase a product, such as health care insurance?” Or, as the President himself might phrase it: “Do you believe there is any Constitutional basis for the most powerful interest in our nation today, the federal government, to drown out the voices of ordinary citizens who object to be forced to buy an insurance plan?” Last week, five more states joined the litigation by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and other AGs against the constitutionality of the health care mandate. The addition of Indiana, North Dakota, Mississippi, Nevada and Arizona brings the total number of states to 18, while Virginia pursues its own separate litigation.

WITH JUSTICE STEVENS RETIRING
April 13, 2010 – FLAG Communications Weekly (NAM)U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens announced his pending retirement on Friday, April 9, prompting the usual speculation and handicapping of potential successors. President Obama went populist in his statement describing his preferred candidates: “I will seek someone in the coming weeks with similar qualities -- an independent mind, a record of excellence and integrity, a fierce dedication to the rule of law, and a keen understanding of how the law affects the daily lives of the American people. It will also be someone who, like Justice Stevens, knows that in a democracy, powerful interests must not be allowed to drown out the voices of ordinary citizens.” In her statement, Nan Aron of the Alliance for Justice said, “The President now has an opportunity to name a worthy successor who will stand up for equal justice for all, not just the wealthy or powerful.” We’ll remember Stevens for finding justification for the rise of the regulatory state, writing the majority opinion in the 1984 ruling Chevron v. NRDC, which held that executive branch agencies have broad authority to regulate when Congress is ambiguous or silent. Stevens also wrote the majority opinion in Massachusetts v. EPA (2007), which intuited the EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act.
