GOVERNOR HERBERT ADDRESSES UMA BEST PRACTICES EXPO

August 18, 2010 – UMA

The featured keynote speaker at UMA’s 6th Annual “Best Practices Expo” held today at Weber State University was Governor Gary Herbert. He addressed the concluding luncheon of the expo attended by nearly 200 manufacturers and supporters of manufacturers from across the northern region of Utah.

Herbert reminded manufacturers in attendance that “you are the driving force behind Utah’s recovery from what is being called the ‘big recession’.” He continued that manufacturers are the number one industry sector in Utah and one of three industries that create wealth. “Your employees are doing better than most because you pay wages 37% higher than the average in the State,” he told Expo attendees.

The Governor emphasized his three major priorities for his administration, grow the economy, improve education and foster energy development. He noted that Utah has recently received more #1 accolades from national groups and than any other five states combined. He said it because we are fiscally responsible in Utah and we understand that you don’t stifle business if you want the economy to prosper, you work to reduce taxes, reduce regulations and encourage innovation.

He concluded that his job is largely to keep government off the backs of business and industry and keep government’s hands out of their pockets.

Comments from attendees of today’s expo were very positive regarding the quality of the presentations, the subject matter and the overall value to attendees, presenters and exhibitors.

Today’s expo set new records for the UMA Best Practices Expo, both in attendance and involvement of exhibitors and sponsors.

UMA expresses its sincere thanks to all who participated and welcomes your feedback for future expos.
