UMA URGES CONGRESS TO STOP EPA ON GREENHOUSE GAS
The following letter was sent to President Obama and to the Utah Congressional delegation urging action to stop EPA from regulating Greenhouse gas though the Clean Air Act.

I understand that the Senate will soon vote on Senator Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) amendment (No. 183) to small business legislation (S. 493) and I urge you to support it.

The EPA is attempting to use the Clean Air Act as a blunt instrument to regulate carbon - an action for which the law was never intended. This represents yet another example of the EPA's overreach as manufacturers are attempting to fully recover from the steepest economic downturn since the 1930s and bring back the 2.2 million high-wage manufacturing jobs lost during the recession. The EPA's actions will continue to undermine our competitiveness and restrict our ability to compete in the global marketplace and create jobs.

As our nation struggles to maintain our current economic recovery, the EPA's continued overreach will impose additional economic burdens and cost jobs. I urge you to stop the EPA's regulation by supporting Sen. McConnell's Energy Tax Prevention Act amendment.

Thomas E. Bingham, President
Utah Manufacturers Association
