MAJOR MARKETS LOSE A ONE MILLION MANUFACTURING JOBS IN PAST FIVE YEARS

"The nation's 100 major markets lost 1.43 million manufacturing jobs during the past five years -- an average of 783 each day." The article reports, "Few metros have been exempt from this freefall. Only four of the top 100 markets possess more manufacturing jobs today than in mid-2006: Bakersfield and Modesto, Calif., Charleston, SC, and Houston," Texas. "The worst declines have occurred in Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Fla. (down 49.4 percent in manufacturing employment since June 2006), Colorado Springs (down 33.2 percent) and California's Riverside-San Bernardino metro (down 32.6 percent)." The article includes "the latest numbers for the manufacturing sector from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics."
