October 26, 2009- Employers Council
Action on the proposed federal Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is soon to heat up. If you missed our Fall 2009 Labor Lines Quarterly, which provides a current “state of play” on EFCA (published October 13, 2009), please let us know and we will send you another copy.
Even more up-to-the-minute news is that attorney for the Service Employees International Union, Craig Becker, has been nominated to serve on the powerful National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Also, recent buzz coming from the Senate Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions Committee indicates that there has been a deal reached to develop an alternative form of EFCA. While legislative text is not yet available, it will likely include language that would compel employers to accept a union contract within a certain period of time. Stay tuned.
