The recovery in manufacturing accelerated in October, with the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index rising from 52.6 in September to 55.7 last month. That marks the third consecutive month above the index's growth threshold. After bottoming out at 32.9 last December, the improvement in manufacturing has been steady, increasing nine out of the past 10 months. The rise in October was driven by a sizable increase in both production and employment.
