Will Tax Hikes Precede Healthcare Reform?

November 25, 2009

Observers in Washington are saying provisions of the House and Senate Healthcare Reform bills would burden the American public with billions of dollars in new taxes for a few years before they would likely see the changes promised in bills currently before Congress.

Proponents suggest that would be a good thing because the extra revenue would give the government the money and time to get things right before the changes occur. But critics argue there is no guarantee the money would be enough and that increasing taxes could stifle economic recovery.
