UMA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE OFF AND RUNNING

If it’s January, we must be preparing for the Utah Legislature. The UMA Legislative Committee, a composite of legislative experts with a variety of specialties met for the first time this year this morning to begin reviewing numbered bills and bill requests from Utah’s 104 legislators. The process, that has been combined with our sister organization, the Utah Mining Association, has gone on for many years. It evaluates hundreds of bills every general session and helps establish positions to guide the two organizations.

Being a holiday for some, the numbers in the meeting were smaller than usual this morning but the number of bills already identified for review was a more normal number. The number of numbered bills, bills for which there is language that can be viewed and evaluated, will grow exponentially this week and really explode next week as lawmakers begin meeting on Capitol Hill on Monday, January 24. As usual, we will be ready to represent the interests of manufacturers and the general business community in Utah. The bill tracking services of UMA are available on the UMA website at www.umaweb.org. The list of bills considered by the committee this morning has been posted and will continue to grow as the list grows. You can follow any bills of interest to you. The list will be updated daily. If you have questions, give us a call at 801-363-3885 or email the UMA president at tom@umaweb.org.
