NAM Urges Chemical Management System Based On Sound Science

December 4, 2009

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee conducted an oversight hearing December 3 on the Federal Toxic Substances Control Act. In a letter to the Committee, NAM Vice President Keith McCoy said that manufacturers are committed to working with Congress and staff to ensure implementation of a “forward-thinking and comprehensive chemical management strategy.” He noted that reforming the U.S. chemical management system “will not only impact chemical manufacturing, but also the entirety of the supply chain” and urged Congress to make sure that any changes are based on sound science and take into account intended uses and potential risk.
